Hard wood floors can make the difference in your house of office especially if you are aware of the difference. Having hard wood floors is something that can be achieved by knowing what to look for. For example if you purchase regular red oak or maple, you will soon discover that although this is a good choice for looks, it may not be the best thing for the hardness of any wood floor. The janka hardness rating chart is a system composed of a test given to see the hardness rating. With a nickel ball, it is dropped at a certain height and it is until the wood gets dented, the height of the ball at the given time of the drop is measured and calculations are made. This gives the woodfloors its ranking.

Some may find that a hard wood floor is beneficial because its ability to withstand dents and scratches. For example the some of the harder woods that have a janka rating of 2000 to 3000 range versus red oak 1290 are like the Brazilian Cherry, Brazilian Walnut,
Brazilian Teak, Tiete Chestnut, Tiete Rosewood, Caribbean Rosewood, Santos Mahogany, Tigerwood, African Rosewood ect. These are all foreign or exotic wood floors.

For the domestic hard wood flooring you may consider Hickory otherwise known as Pecan, it has a Janka scale or 1820. Maple has a rating of 1450. White oak is more hard than red oak it has a janka hardness of 1360.  The Brazilian Maple however has a janka rating or 1500. Some of the softer wood floors are the American Walnut at 1010, the Peruvian Walnut is at 1080.  American Cherry at 950. Others include Southern Yellow Pine at 870. 

Sometimes hard wood flooring is necessary because you may have kids or pets. Kids and pets are a factor to consider when searching for the right type of flooring. Maybe a wood floor may not be the answerer to your project. Consider using maybe a laminate. Laminate is not a real wood floor. It is considered to be a print of a hardwood on a formica synthetic material. Although it will not raise the value of your house, it sure does look good. What ever the case the classic look of a wood floor is the cleaner style and the way to go when seeking a change in a house or a commercial area.
